ajax - What is safest technology to implement a web-based game -
i trying develop web-based (and work on portable devices tablets) game 2 players can play , want know safest technology.
being safe means performance ok on different platform.
i know flash/actionscript feel flash die (will not supported on windows 8, ipad)
html5 seems choice cross-platform performance have experienced games in html5 not e.g. angry birds slows system down. have these specifications:
windows 7 intel(r) atom(tm) cpu n450 1.66ghz 2gb memory browser: chrome, firefox note: of audience have lesser specifications. i have tried painting (squares of 10 x 10) in html5 using canvas , g2d , same bad performance
- is there way can improve html5 perform better
- what of pure jquery/ajax?
- or there other tools can use.
update:
indication flash still supported internet explorer: but ie8 didn't support flash either. nor did ie7, ie6 , on. flash support has been provided via adobe plug-in, , can't see reason why wouldn't continue ie9. details in links below:
use flash.
i think you're getting wrong impression flash through on exaggerated , poorly informed sources telling flash going 'die'.
what mean is; flash become less useful web-based applications, video , basic animation content. flash still has huge hold on web-based games.
there massive websites making tonnes of money through hosting flash game content, here few:
companies these aren't going die off overnight, or on quite extended period.
there tonnes , tonnes of resources flash game developers, combined low learning curve. means newcomer you're able create games within short period. adobe , plenty of other places offers mountains of articles , tools game development, such as:
- adobe gaming
- adobe flash player premium features gaming
- adobe introduces premium features gaming
- as3 game engines - both 2d , 3d
- starling framework
- flixel - flash game library
there's big incentive flash game development many websites such listed above (kongretate, armorgames, etc) offer large amounts of cash sponsor flash games. can win awards games additional cash. many websites offer cut of revenue make advertising appears on same page game.
flash going continue thriving in gaming space , don't think need concern becoming redundant purpose anytime soon.
there handful of advantages can see using html5/javascript:
- it's free - don't need specialised software create html5/javascript applications.
- it's supported on mobile - said, you're going have redevelop parts of game support touch controls etc anyway annoying , more not leads abandoning mobile versions. additionally, javascript rendering performance on mobile poor (you'll have low frame rates).
