syntax highlighting - Vim: Change colour depending on indentation/control flow depth? -

in vim, possible change background colour of line depending on depth of control flow, or of indentation (which ever easier)? seem remember seeing such feature in editor used previously, can't find one.

i use light-on-dark scheme, , change background lighter each indentation step, , darker again code steps out higher levels.

ideally possible change background of line-number columns, or indentation (i use spaces only).

vim indent guides should adequate.
