dns - How to change the server name? -


i new employee in 1 of web development companies. company has following policy in developing web-based applications: database should resided on coporate server controlled , web-based application files should hosted on different server have admin rights on it. have windows server 2008 r2. access 1 of these applications, should put link server name such as:

http://servername.myapplication

instead of server name, want put meaningful name (or alias) don't know how that. please tell me how this?

by way, searched in internet , of resources talking dns without clear steps.

to change server/computer name follow following steps:

  1. go computer --> properties
  2. click "change settings" --> opens "system properties" window
  3. click "change" --> opens "computer name/domain changes" window
  4. change "computer name" there , click "ok"
